Connector

Arc protection

Turck has introduced a preassembled Meltric connector with arc protection. To protect against arcing, the Meltric series connectors feature spring-loaded demating technology inside an enclosed arc chamber, along with mating and demating shutters to shield users from live parts. This design allows users to safely connect and disconnect the devices under load, providing quick change-outs. For additional safety, these connectors only will mate with their designated connector class, and demate and break load by the push of a button located directly on the connector.

Each Meltric connector is switch and horsepower rated, so one device can be used as a connector and disconnect switch. This streamlines operations by removing the need for a separate disconnect switch in applications that require a line-of-sight disconnect. The connector also can be used as a lockout/tagout device.

The Meltric series is ideal for use with high-powered electrical equipment because these connectors can serve as a connector and a disconnect switch.

Fan

Explosion proof

Larson Electronics has announced the release of an explosion-proof fan designed for spot cooling hazardous locations. The EPF-30-PT explosion proof fan is a Class I Division 1 and Class II Division 1 fan rated for use in hazardous locations where flammable or explosive vapors, gases or dusts exist.

This hazardous location fan features a spark-proof design that is intended to minimize the possibility of causing an ignition or explosion in a hazardous environment.

The fan unit generates more than 8,000 CFM of air output and spins at 1,140 RPMs for efficient spot cooling. A powder-coated steel guard provides protection over the three blades. A cast-aluminum junction box houses the fan motor and allows for electrical connections to the fan. This unit is designed to be pole mounted and easily slips over existing poles for quick and easy installation.

Light

Safe pathways

Industrial plants have forklifts, heavy equipment, personal carriers and overhead cranes busily working with operators of these machines—concentrating mainly on the load being handled and their jobs at hand. Major safety hazards are in play in these situations.

Built with heavy-duty die-cast aluminum, the Forewarner-Maxi ensures pedestrian safety by projecting a solid white, blue or red tightly focused spotlight on the floor that alerts pedestrians to the hook’s location. The spotlight also aids precise positioning for crane operators by providing a framing reference between the floor and hook.

A clip-on lens cover is available that transforms the spotlight into a linelight on the floor below. Many crane operators prefer the linelight for additional load control.‘‘

The Forewarner-Maxi features LED lights. The product’s 10 ft. cable connects to inputs of 12, 24, 36 or 48 volts of direct current. The mounting bracket is adjustable 150 degrees up or down, allowing for precise positioning.

Machining

Production grinder

Fives Landis Corp. has released the Landis-Bryant UL2 internal high-speed production grinder. The UL2 is ideal for processing bores, faces and contours of bearing rings, valve lifters, gears, universal joint cups and CVJ components. It is also suitable for machining workpieces with an external diameter of up to 177 mm.

The Landis-Bryant UL2 has been designed for high-speed, high-precision grinding of internal diameters. The machine’s torque tube bed design, combined with a flow-through system that circulates oil and coolant through the base, provide rigidity and thermal stability.

The machine’s round-bar hydrostatic slideways in each axis provide a stiff system with minimum friction. The UL2 uses high-resolution servo motors that are directly coupled to precision ball screws for reliable positioning throughout the production cycle.

Motor

Linear length upgrade

ETEL has added extra ironcore linear motor lengths to each of their different motor widths so engineers can expand their range of machines to a point where a larger payload is required.‘These new lengths are compatible with existing 50, 70 and 100 mm track widths on the LMG and LMS lines of ETEL motors.‘ETEL users can increase performance without changing the magnetic track being used.

ETEL also has built its line of LMG and LMS ironcore motors to be fully pin-to-pin compatible to allow machine designers to increase the power of their linear motors.

ETEL’s LMG and LMS models share the same footprint, peak force, mounting interface, cable outputs and magnetic track, making an easy exchange between the two.‘Each motor uses ETEL’s design, which minimizes the amount of force ripple that is typical of ironcore motors while maintaining the high-force density that other anti-cogging designs sacrifice.

Camera

High speed for scientific research

Vision Research’s Phantom Flex4K-GS is a high-speed camera with a 35 mm, 9.4-megapixel sensor and global shutter. The camera has been designed for applications in the scientific research, defense and aerospace industries.

The Flex4K-GS employs a sensor capable of recording 1,000 frames per second at 4K resolution, while its global shutter ensures that every pixel is exposed to light at the exact same moment in time. This capability is important in aerospace applications because it prevents motion artifacts with propellers, motors and other rotating objects and ensures timing precision throughout the entirety of each frame. Also critical to defense is the camera’s build quality. Its isolated electronics and thermal design allow for operation in environments within the temperature range of -20°C to 50°C, all the while maintaining a stable image.
