Leading the Way

Abstract:The 2015 revision of ISO 9001 prioritizes quality in management systems without specifying how quality is realized, whether as monetary gain, asset retention or nonmonetary achievement. It stresses the important role of management providing a clear purpose and foundation for strategic direction. The update shifts focus from a management system that satisfies a standard to a management approach that centers on business and nurtures its growth. Organizations may vary in the degree to which they attain the value they seek, but understanding and accounting for the role of leadership in working toward goals within the organization's defined context is key.
