Getting It Right the First Time

Abstract:This article discusses a lean project that was completed at a tier-one shock absorber supplier for India’s largest car manufacturing organization. High rework in shock absorbers due to damping force (DF) was studied in depth, and Shainin methods (specifically, component search and paired comparison) were successfully implemented to reduce the rework level to shock absorbers. The Shainin toolbox for problem solving has proven to be revolutionary in manufacturing industries throughout the world because, unlike other problem-solving techniques, it does not require a deep understanding of statistical tools, despite the fact the analysis is completely based on sound statistical methods.
