7 strategies for generating genius ideas

Working with creative minds is one of my favorite things about being a part of an editorial process. Like many teams, we produce an endless stream of ideas (some better than others). It’s capturing them and teasing out the really good ones—then bringing them to fruition—that tends to be our biggest challenge.

I know we’re not alone. Teams everywhere face similar obstacles. Ideas and creative thinking have emerged as the lifeblood that will sustain the ability to compete in a complex, global and commoditized world. Systematic, logic-based approaches to spurring and harnessing creativity are crucial.

This month’s cover story, "Catching Fire," details seven strategies for generating ideas and imparting creative thinking to drive quality improvement.

Revive some of these practices within your own organization, or try an approach you haven’t tried before. What was the outcome? Let us know on this article’s webpage at www.qualityprogress.com.

In this month’s installment of Innovation Imperative, Peter Merrill provides sound advice on building a team that can help you reach your innovation goals. You’ll also find tips for refining your leadership style to encourage the best behaviors and deliver the desired results.

Speaking of new ideas, this month ASQ TV unveils an innovative new way to access keynote speeches delivered at ASQ’s World Conference on Quality and Improvement (WCQI)—even if you are unable to attend the conference held May 5-7 in Dallas.

The new live stream option gives you the opportunity to see the exciting speaker lineup from the comfort of your home or office. Simply go to http://videos.asq.org/live to learn more about this new option and to sign up to view these speakers live from WCQI, or after the event on demand.
