Catching Fire

Abstract:This article discusses seven strategies that help develop creativity in an organization and that can be used directly in quality improvement. The seven creativity strategies are transforming, dividing, brainstorming, mind mapping, associating, comparing and selecting. The first six strategies are used to stimulate divergent thinking to generate ideas, while the last strategy is employed to encourage convergent thinking to select the best ideas. Divergent thinking is a type of creative thinking that follows many lines of thought and tends to generate new and original solutions to problems. Convergent thinking weighs alternatives within an existing construct or model to find the best solution to a problem.
