Portable velocity flow meter

Hach’s FH950 portable velocity flow meter simplifies the velocity measurement process for stream discharge measurements, primary device calibration and sewer spot-check measurements. Users are guided through the flow-profiling process with step-by-step instructions. They can log velocity and enter depth information into the meter.

Discharge calculations are available in real time, and collected flow data are downloaded to a computer through the USB connection. This eliminates manual data transfer and calculations after the site visit.

The FH950’s accompanying electromagnetic sensor can be disconnected from the meter. It has no moving parts and doesn’t require mechanical maintenance or calibration.

Pressure and temperature sensor

American Sensor Technologies has introduced a pressure and temperature sensor and a pressure and temperature transmitter that provides pressure and temperature outputs from a single process point. The dual-output configuration reduces process penetration points and leaks that are important in hydrogen, oxygen, heavy-oil processing, hydraulics, analyzers, offshore, pipelines and ammonia systems.

Model AST20PT stainless steel media isolated pressure and temperature sensor, and model AST46PT explosion-proof pressure and temperature transmitter are ideal for low-power systems because pressure and temperature readings are generated with the power consumption of one sensor.

Both units can be constructed in a range of wetted materials, including high-quality stainless steels and superalloys.

Green spoons and sticks

Scienceware Earth-Friendly spoons and sticks are a green alternative to disposable sampling tools that can help companies meet sustainability goals. Made entirely of polylactic acid (PLA), a plant-based plastic resin,  they contain no petroleum-based products. Other product features include:

The plants used are an annually renewable resource.

Growth of these plants and manufacture of PLA resin uses less energy and emits less greenhouse gases than their petroleum-based counterparts.

PLA resin is biodegradable through industrial composting, or it can be incinerated, recycled or disposed of in a landfill.

These FDA-grade tools are safe for food, drug and cosmetic contact, and are comparable in strength and durability to polystyrene, polypropylene and other plastic-resin sampling tools.

Linear encoder series

RSF Elektronik has released the slim profile linear encoder series MSA 700 and 800 for metrology applications requiring protection from contamination. Typical applications for these encoders are optical comparators, and video and vision systems. The encoders offer generous mounting tolerances, low-level backlash and optimized thermal behavior.

The fiber-reinforced sealing lips made of fluororubber are wear and coolant resistant, allowing the encoder to operate in harsh environments. High velocities are possible due to the high degree of rigidity and the reading head’s ideally formed blade area. The scale is fastened by a flexible adhesive film in the profile, which compensates for the differing linear expansion between the glass and aluminum.

Rotary encoder

Leine and Linde’s 700 series of encoders meets the motor industry’s need for a thin and robust rotary encoder for tight spaces. These encoders feature a thin design and a large hollow shaft of up to 25.4 mm. This allows for direct mounting on a motor’s shaft without an intermediate adapter for shaft reduction.

This direct mount also contributes to minimizing the overall build length on a motor and, at the same time, facilitates mounting.

They feature a dual set of heavy-duty bearings and a well-encapsulated enclosure. The encoders are built to withstand tough environments where they are subjected to vibrations and electrical disturbances.
