Abstract:Urgent research and development needs often result in companies seeking materials from unqualified suppliers. Some companies may be willing to accept the risk that these materials may be unsafe or unreliable because waiting for supplier qualification until production begins presents issues of scale-up and availability. A strategy should be developed to involve R&D in the supplier management process from the earliest stages of their process.
