High-speed imaging system
A mega-pixel, high-speed video imaging system for automotive safety testing has been released by Photron Inc.
The Fastcam SA3 can withstand high acceleration and rugged environments. The photo instrument manufacturer said the new 12-bit camera features 17-micron pixel size for demanding frame-rate or low light applications.
The Fastcam SA3 comes in two models: 60K and 120K. Model 60K performs up to 1,000 frames per second (fps) and offers reduced resolution up to 60,000 fps. Model 120K performs up to 2,000 fps with reduced resolution up to 120,000 fps.

Gigahertz-Optik, a maker of light measurement tools and instruments, has unveiled a modular-design goniometric bench.
The goniometric bench can perform PC remote-controlled, angular-dependent light measurements of light emitting diodes in conjunction with a standard optometer or light analyzer.
The fully automated remote operation of the axial drive and instrumentation is controlled by the Gigahertz-Optik operating system light source evaluation software, which enables standalone use or integration into the end-user system.

Gel thread locker
Henkel Corp., a German-based adhesive and sealant manufacturer, has released a gel thread locker for assembling product pieces that have coarse, wide or large threads.
The Loctite 2033 Gel cures when it’s confined without air between close-fitting metal surfaces, and it prevents loosening from shock and vibration. It is designed to resist most chemicals, liquids and gases. It can be used in temperatures of up to 150º C.
If necessary, items that are applied with the gel can be disassembled with standard hand tools, the company said.

Diesel air compressor
There’s a new diesel air compressor for use in industrial settings and marine and recreational vehicles.
The KS3030 Diesel Air Compressor, developed by Next Generation Power, produces an air flow volume of 30 cfm at 175 psi and 35 sfm at 100 psi. The compressor can run a one inch impact gun or wrench.
The KS3030’s two-cylinder Kuboto Z482 engine is water-cooled and has its own fuel pump and alternator to charge a battery used for starting. The compressor is intended for use outdoors and does not contain any electronic components.

Control for milling
Heidenhain Corp. has introduced a digital drive control for milling machines and milling centers with up to five axes plus spindle.
The TNC 620 contouring control is equipped to handle tasks using swivel and rotary axes. Select functions of the TNC 620 include dynamic look-ahead, algorithms for jerk limitation and intelligent motion control.
The control’s main computer is housed inside the operating panel and behind the thin film transistor flat panel display to avoid any complicated wiring into the electrical box.
