Sharp HealthCare Gets to the Point in Managing Diabetes

Abstract:In order to avoid the consequences of poor control of blood sugar in its acute healthcare facilities, Sharp HealthCare in San Diego called upon staff members who were ASQ-trained Six Sigma Black Belts to initiate an improvement project. Implementing a blood sugar control program meant educating everyone involved – doctors, nurses, and support staff. A define-measure-analyze-improve-control (DMAIC) project kept the BBs focused on critical issues. Improvements in six categories of the Baldrige criteria were also critical to the improvement project.
