State Program Offers Hand To Small Business

Abstract:In the years since ISO 9000 became the international standard for quality management, small businesses have struggled to keep up with the competition, despite limited resources. In 1999, the New Mexico Economic Development Department created New Mexico 9000, a program to get small business ISO 9001 certified at reasonable cost. By achieving ISO 9001 certification, companies become more efficient, lower their operating costs, and can bid on government contracts. This, in turn, furthers the state's economic development goals with expanded employment, higher paying jobs, and increased revenue. New Mexico 9000 is now offering major New Mexico businesses assistance in getting their small suppliers ISO certified.
