Software Gives Suppliers Direct Access
IQS has released a Java based supplier management capability that gives suppliers direct access to corrective action requests they have been assigned. The intent is to enhance collaboration, communication and accuracy.
IQS users can allow suppliers to log in to specified portions of their quality systems to respond directly to corrective action requests from product nonconformances. The solution also reissues new corrective actions if the initial supplier response was found ineffective. This function is offered as part of IQS’ existing Supplier Performance Management software.

IDM Is Designed To Reduce Cycle Time
The Juran Institute and i-Solutions have developed an Initiative Deployment Manager (IDM) that permits organizations to deploy and then track all business programs while maintaining access to Juran’s resources for updating and refreshing existing initiatives.
IDM is designed to help reduce project cycle time, raise net savings per project and increase the number of projects that can be monitored at the same time.
The program library includes templates and guidelines in methodology that are flexible and can be customized to work with existing programs.

Bar Codes Offer Real-Time Tracking
Complete Inspection Systems has released authentification markers and bar codes that allow manufacturers to track and identify drugs, foods and other materials online in real time from anywhere with internet access.
Manufacturers can add microscopic edible markers and 2D and 3D bar codes to their products for authentification. The markers and bar codes can be used to make food or drugs more secure by providing proof at any point along the production, storage and distribution chain that a product is what the label on its package says.

L.J. Star Introduces Illumination Sight Glasses
The L.J. Star series USL 33/35 are sight glasses specifically designed to minimize areas that can collect liquids and contaminants. Applications include illumination of the interiors of sealed vessels such as reactors, fermenters, mixers, pipelines and boilers. The sight glasses are adapted for use in the processing of pharmaceuticals, beverages, food and biotech products.
The USL 33/35 is composed of stainless steel and measures 6.1 in. in length and 2.1 in. in diameter. The lights can be mounted onto a sanitary clamp connection. Built-in or remote push-button actuation is available on all models.

System Suited for Cylindrical Grinding
Configured with hardware and software, Num’s Axium Power CNC system is suited to address the cylindrical and surface grinding process. The cylindrical grinding process allows the dressing station to be table mounted or rear positioned to accommodate existing machines.
For surface grinding, Num offers grind cycles for 3-axis machines with wheel dressing for single or double point and roller dresser capabilities.
ISO 9000 programming know-how is not needed since the operator fills in the data fields presented by the program. After the data entry session, the program is automatically generated, stored and ready for execution.

Software Allows Programming Offline
Declam has introduced PowerInspect inspection software with centralized network configuration capabilities that allow programming offline for the inspection of sample parts against a master computer aided drawing (CAD) model during production.
Simulation capabilities within the software allow the proposed inspection sequence to be tested on the computer before being transferred to the capability maturity model.
The program offers both comparison of tooling and sample components against CAD data and produces reports that can be understood by everyone in the product development process.

Spectrum 4 Can Be Used For Quality Control Audits
The Spectrum 4 process multimeter, from Strandberg Engineering Lab-oratories, is a portable meter for paper, plastics, metal and textile web processing. It has a storage capacity of 100 data points that can be downloaded to a PC. The measurements reveal speed to the nearest 10th of a meter or yard per minute and stretch or shrinkage to the nearest 10th percent. The instrument readings display slack drive belts, poor speed regulation, bearing failures and roll or gripper slippage. The Spectrum 4 can be used for spot checks and quality control audits.
