Quality Engineering vol. 23 issue 1 - January 2011
Abstract: Health care is an important new area for quality engineering. This study provides an example of Lean Six Sigma in health care. The particular case study explores reducing the length of hospital stay for total hip replacement patients. The study began with major improvements and continued to apply Kaizen principles to the process. Contrary to common assumption, the study shows that quality can be improved and cost reduced at the same time.
