Application of Statistical Inspection Technology to Construction Projects

Quality Engineering vol. 1 issue 4 - April 1989

Abstract: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.]

The statistical sampling inspection and engineering evaluation techniques used by ERC International Inc. to reinspect and evaluate the adequacy of completed nuclear facilities after the completion of construction and before beginning operations are discussed. The techniques were scrutinized and accepted by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The description of how to apply similar techniques to ongoing, unique construction projects to which statistical inspection techniques have not generally been applied is emphasized. The application has advantages in that it results in a substantial reduction of inspection cost but maintains or upgrades the quality of ongoing construction work at the same time.
