Quality in Athletics Interest Group Goals and Activities
Dating back to Olympia in Greece around 776 B.C., athletic competitions have been an early form of entertainment. The Olympics have since evolved into a global tradition with a worldwide show of talent, dedication, grace and sportsmanship.
High quality athletes and competitions were always important to the Olympic sporting world. With this in mind, the Quality in Athletics Group was formed to bring Quality tools, techniques and principles to sports teams from the youth to professional levels. Our goal is to inspire athletes, coaches, and their respective organizations to reach higher levels of responsibility, development, consistency and systemic control through the use of Quality practices.
Primary Goals:
1. Improve athletic programs through the use of quality tools
2. Give teams a forum to share best practices
3. Provide new opportunities for former athletes
Key Activities:
- Create website, logos and other standard marketing materials to explain mission and grow interest/membership
- Create Advisory Committee from Professional and Collegiate Sports
- Develop Athletic Excellence program for youth sports
- Develop education plan
- Implement Athletic Excellence on voluntary youth sports teams and collect information for improvements/changes
- Revise the education plan based on implementation findings
- Develop membership drive committee
- Collaborate with other Divisions and Interest Groups
- Develop process to award Athletic Program Excellence certifications
- Determine and host events and functions
