Article Abstract

The intent of this tutorial is to show the interactive relationships between quality principles and the corrective action process; and to offer the reader a guide for selecting process corrective actions. The tutorial will present the process as the focal point for the elimination of variation; it will differentiate between failure driven and prevention driven activities; discuss variation as it relates to processes that support production (e.g. procurement processes, material handling processes, personnel hiring processes, training processes, maintenance processes, document control processes, etc.). Further, it will emphasize the importance of support processes; distinguish between types of discrepancies; and offer a guide to recommending corrective actions that are suited to identified discrepancies.
