Article Abstract

(This paper was presented at the Journal of Quality Technology Session at the 29th Annual Fall Technical Conference of the Chemical and Process Industries Division of the American Society for Quality Control and Section on Physical and Engineering Sciences of the American Statistical Association in Corning, New York, October 24-25, 1985).Methods are described by which it can be judged from a sample of measurements whether the population from which the sample was drawn is distributed acceptably tightly about the population mean. The decision is generally based on the value of the sample coefficient of variation. The assumptions made make these methods particularly applicable to the evaluation of content uniformity for mixtures prepared in closed containers.
