Article Abstract

Definitions for critical, major and minor characteristics established in MIL-STD-105B or MIL-W-9411A, and most modifications thereof, are qualitative in nature and, therefore, do not afford the engineer an answer to quantitative aspects of such characteristics. The authors outline a simple analytical procedure aimed at providing that quantitative solution necessary to economical decisions (at no sacrifice to quality) among the three classifications.
