Article Abstract

An improved standard of living causes stress on the economy by creating new demands for consumer goods while simultaneously tending to reduce the labor force available to produce such goods. One key to such accelerated progress lies in the field of automatic process control combined with high-speed data handling, a field which we may designate briefly by the term "automation."
