Article Abstract

This article uses Plato's metaphor of the acorn ("our calling, vocation, or destiny") that is destined to grow into a mighty oak to explore the theme of leadership as determined early in life. Several examples are presented to show how leaders developed by embracing the talents they had and bringing them to both public and private fruition. Examples include David Thomas, Harold Yuker, and Ella Fitzgerald.
