Article Abstract

While attending a garage sale a few years back, one of the authors, Gerry McBean, came across a coffee mug that had the company logo and the following three words etched on it: "Honesty without fear." "Honesty with fear" - what three word phrase better captures the environment that we are trying to create in our contemporary companies.

In this paper, the different types of fear are identified as "monsters" that destroy teamwork and prevent an organization from achieving the collective capability of its people. The current practices and policies in our companies that create these fears are also reviewed along with what needs to be done to drive out fear. The paper concludes with a description of an environment of "Honesty without fear."
