Article Abstract

This paper is the third of three on the subject of vendor evaluation presented by the GTE Vendor Quality Group. The first, "Microphotography: Key to Vendor Workmanship Quality" (Quality Progress, August, 1985, Pages 17-19), addressed a method of determining the Workmanship Quality inherent in the vendor's product. The second, "Theory Y Vendor Evaluation" (1987 AQC Proceedings, pages 702-709), discussed the use and content of a written survey to judge the adequacy of a vendor�s internal manufacturing and engineering system. This paper, the last of the trio, speaks to the problem of obtaining vendor commitment to constant product quality improvement and the method used by GET to accomplish that goal.
