Article Abstract

In this paper, we discuss a backwards chaininginference engine we have implemented as a set of C functions. This inference engine is the first tool in an expert system function library and workbench for the Unix/C environment. The development of this library and workbench will allow the incorporation of expert system components into production quality software systems for quality and reliability, while minimizing the drawbacks accompanying the use of current expert system development tools.
