Article Abstract

FPL's Quality Improvement ProgramIn 1981, FPL was facing a hostile environment of high inflation, increasing fuel oil prices and a plan to make heavy capital expenditures to meet future demand.The Company's environment was changing faster than the organization could adapt and for the first time in its history FPL was in a survival role.FPL's top management determined a new Management System was needed, and a radical cultural change was necessary to survive the crisis now and to deal with the future.Based on situations we were facing and the need for a radical change in approach, our top management committed to fully implement our Quality Improvement Program (QIP).
