Article Abstract

When Fluor Corp. partnered with the Department of Energy to clean up its nuclear site in Hanford, WA, the company ensured that the job was performed safely by relying on statistical process control and other quality methods. Efforts taken during this enormous environmental cleanup project were so effective that Fluor won national recognition, including an award from the National Safety Council. Fluor has been active in the DOE’s Voluntary Protection Program that promotes safety and health measures through cooperative efforts among labor, management, and government at DOE sites throughout the country. The company is now applying the same methods at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.
