Article Abstract

The Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence represents the best business model in the world. Even if your company doesn't expect to win the award, submitting an application has many benefits. Whether your goal is to receive feedback, receive a site visit, or become an award recipient, it is important to write an examiner friendly application. The judges want to know what makes your organization a role model, so have a great people, process and results story and tell it well. Writing an application requires a process and a plan that involves senior leadership. Organizations have the greatest success when they apply best practices while preparing an award application. Lessons learned apply not only to the Baldrige award, but to other quality awards as well because the principles and processes are the same. A sidebar article explains how to overcome objections to applying for a Baldrige award.
