Article Abstract

The Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulatory requirements passed by Congress in 2002 ensures investors are provided with accurate and reliable financial data on all publicly traded companies. Implementation of these requirements can be expensive and difficult. Designing controls that are integral to the business process not only satisfies SOX requirements but can provide an integrated framework for meeting other quality and regulatory requirements. Companies with a well-established systems thinking perspective are inclined to view management approaches and improvement methodologies as tools offering multiple approaches to the solution of particular situations. Enterprise level process mapping facilitates the systems approach to management by graphically illustrating the manner in which the organization operates and interacts. An integrated approach can offer a company the opportunity to tighten its management practices and improve its business performance.
