Article Abstract

[This abstract is based on the authors abstract.] Ambiguous and overlapping defect statuses, the stages that a defect goes through on its path to final resolution, are the cause of arguments, inefficiency, inaccuracy, and failure to handle defects properly. A solution is provided in a complete set of non-overlapping statuses and an explanation of the reasoning behind them. Valid reasons for withdrawing a defect are given and a state transition diagram of normal status changes is provided.
