Jointly with the 7th Asia Pacific Quality Organization Conference: SQD paper
To face the difficulties involved in ISO requirements for communications, documentation, and software metrics, BFGoodrich developed an intranet-based system linking their Software Engineering and Quality Assurance divisions. The system provides simple access to necessary forms and offers checklists to assure complete coverage. The focus of their software process improvement efforts was creation of a template for standardizing internal documents, and a method to track the development time and cost. The template was developed and fine-tuned to include the purpose of the document, referenced documents, terminology, procedures or instructions, and records. Access to the documents, and to all predecessor and lower tiered documents, is available through a hyperlink tool. Development team members provided training in the use of the template and linking tool. The development of software metrics involved tracking the bid, proposal, and estimating process, requirements definition, and purchase or development of the required software. The resulting systems demonstrated that compliance with ISO requirements for process communication is attainable.
