Article Abstract

[Pages 82, 86-87] [Abstract from article]

Should a small service company pursue ISO 9000 certification? If your customers aren't well informed about the benefits of hiring a certified company, why invest the time and money to achieve the goal? If none of your competitors are ISO 9000 certified, is there a competitive advantage to being the only one?

Citizens Mechanical Services (CMS) LLC is a small plumbing and contracting service company in Indianapolis that provides potable hot water and hydronic heating to commercial companies in central Indiana. Our major customer segments are multifamily apartment complexes, restaurants, car washes and institutional kitchens. We are moving forward with the process because each year, as we progress toward the requirements of ISO 9000 certification, our company has improved its process capability.
