Article Abstract

Many business leaders have difficulty translating their strategic planning strategies into business results. One reason is that carefully devised strategies are often poorly deployed and implemented. To successfully launch a business strategy, an organization must clearly link it to departmental, team, and individual goals. Resources must by dedicated to making improvements in areas critical to the company's competitive advantage. In addition to traditional financial and customer satisfaction measures, appropriate measurement systems must be added at the operational level to help determine the extent changes and improvements support the strategy. By focusing on process, measurement, and accountability, organizations can improve the chances that their strategic change efforts will succeed. A sidebar article discusses aligning process measures with customer and business goals.
