Article Abstract

QS-9000 had its North American inauguration in August 1994, and the worldwide launching of its second edition occurred in February 1995. Plans for the third edition include improvements in the test laboratories and process capability/performance requirements as well as integration of International Auto Sector Group interpretations into QS-9000. Guidance for tooling and equipment users of QS-9000 is provided by documents like the QS-9000 Tooling and Equipment Supplement and the Tooling and Equipment Quality System Assessment. Training for QS-9000 implementation is available in a standardized curriculum and an instructor certification process sanctioned by Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors. For the future, ISO Technical Committee 176 has resolved to cover automotive industry quality management needs in the ISO 9000 series.
