ISO 19011 Receives Elevation to Draft International Standard

The JWG reached agreement during its March 2001 meeting to elevate ISO/CD3 19011 to DIS, with balloting expected to begin in late May 2001. However, the joint EA and QA guidelines standard’s elevation was achieved with JWG agreement that substantive comments could be made during the DIS stage to address any issues that were not fully resolved at the meeting in Sydney. Gary Johnson provides information on the changes made, including compromise language that may resolve US concerns with "recommended" auditor criteria and improvements to address the lack of guidance on determining competency needs for auditors and the application of the process to internal audit situations.
