Firestone Incident: Amid the Blame Game, a Look at Quality System Facts

Since Bridgestone/Firestone announced a voluntary recall of its tires in August 2000 in response to incidents involving tread separations on Ford Explorer SUVs, there has been a great deal of speculation as to what caused these product defects and who or what is responsible for them. A brief look at the facts about the tire nonconformities situation and QS-9000 and other quality system requirements and issues as well as a statement from LRQA and information from a source at NHTSA are included in this report.
