Proposing a Compact Instrument to Measure Supplier-Customer Relationships in the Context of TQM Activities

Summary: [This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] A study of the factors that characterize a complete supplier-customer partnership is discussed. Data are from 205 Canadian manufacturing companies. Principle component analysis is used to provide a compact instrument that permits researchers and practitioners to measure results more efficiently. Application of this model to supplier-customer relationships indicates that the relationships have focused primarily on long-term purchasing arrangements and market adjustment. Additionally, joint improvement activities have not been given sufficient attention. An appendix provides the 33 survey questions on different cooperative activities.
