ASQ names editors for Quality Management Journal, Six Sigma Forum Magazine

Fredendall, Bossert poised to strengthen publications

Milwaukee, Wis., Oct. 19, 2012 — ASQ recently named James Bossert editor for its Six Sigma Forum Magazine and Lawrence Fredendall editor of its Quality Management Journal.

Bossert succeeds A. Blanton Godfrey, who served as editor since the founding of the quarterly publication in November 2001. Fredendall takes over for James Evans, who led the peer-reviewed journal for six years.

Fredendall, of Greenville, S.C., and Bossert, of Fort Worth, Texas, begin their editorship roles on Jan. 1, 2013.

Fredendall is a tenured professor of Operations Management at Clemson University. He earned his Ph.D. in business administration in 1991 from Michigan State University.

Fredendall has received many awards and honors, including the Mary Beth Pearson Gnagey Award from the Decision Sciences Institute for best contribution to theory. An avid author and conference presenter, Fredendall has published numerous journal articles and books on quality methodologies, with an emphasis on quality management techniques, systems and theory.

Under his leadership, Fredendall will strengthen Quality Management Journal's position as a premiere publishing venue for academics, while also incorporating a stronger voice from the practitioner in print and during the article selection and review process.

“Quality management is an applied field, so for theory to have relevance to managers it must help them add value to their products and services,” Fredendall said.

Bossert serves as program manager for Bank of America, and earned his Ph.D. in technology management, specializing in quality systems from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Ind.

Bossert, as ASQ Fellow, has received numerous awards, including the ASQ Distinguished Service Medal; Academician, Center for Quality and Applied Statistics; best of Six Sigma Project, Bank of America; and has been a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Examiner.

Bossert brings to Six Sigma Forum Magazine several ideas to strengthen the already strong publication. “Six Sigma Forum Magazine is the premier Six Sigma magazine in the world today,” Bossert said. “I will do everything possible to build off that reputation and make it even greater.”
