Milwaukee, Wis., August 10, 2011 ASQ has awarded a Richard A. Freund International Scholarship to David Zepeda from Minneapolis, Minn. Zepeda received a $5,000 scholarship for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to pursuing quality improvement in the healthcare field. This scholarship, named after a past ASQ president, supports a quality professional’s graduate studies.
Zepeda, a Juran Fellow, is pursuing a doctorate in operations and management science at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. He is also working towards a master’s degree in statistics to prepare himself to conduct rigorous research for his dissertation. Prior to his studies at the University of Minnesota, Zepeda earned a bachelor’s of science in electrical engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering as well as an MBA from the University of Tulsa.
“This allows me to focus on my dissertation research full time and complete both the [master’s and doctorate] degrees in a timely fashion,” said Zepeda.
His study focus is on how technology can improve healthcare quality while at the same time addressing disparities in care delivery. Zepeda will use his scholarship as support funds for data collection and analysis.
