Abstract: [This abstract is based on the author's abstract.]The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and its technical committees on quality management and environmental management have made progress in aligning the requirements and the language used in ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004. One of the early successes was ISO 19011:2002 that aligned the principles and practices for auditing and auditor competence as applied to quality and environmental management systems. An American National Standard, ANSI/ISO/ASQ QE 19011S-2004, was developed to provide supplemental guidance. A description of ISO 19011 and QE 19011S is given.
