On January 30, 2010, the ASQ China office and the Shenzhen Association for Quality held a successful quality forum in Shenzhen, China, which engaged ASQ China members and other quality professionals in discussions on quality development and requirements for quality professionals.
Approximately 300 attendees sat in the auditorium to listen as Kevin Wu, ASQ China general manager, Lestie Carey, an organizational change specialist, and Peter Shi, an ASQ member, shared their rich experience and knowledge.
Wu introduced the evolution of quality philosophy, trends in the United States, and how to identify the forces of change. During his speech, he offered a clear understanding of the implications for quality and quality organizations, as well as the need for quality management to improve and adapt in our rapidly changing business world.
Carey, who has been an organizational change specialist for 20 years, also shared her rich experience in quality management and development. She shared with attendees how to demonstrate quality tools and methods to top management, and how these tools and methods will help them realize their goals of improved customer satisfaction, competitive advantage, and improved profitability.
Shi, a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and employee at Nokia Siemens Networks Corp., presented on quality, ASQ, and his experience as a quality professional. He shared how he puts to practice the quality tools and methods he has learned through ASQ.
Shi used case studies from his real work experience to demonstrate the business improvements that will occur when quality tools and methods are used effectively. The areas of impact that showed improvement are:
Fast to Market — Operations
Balanced Scorecard — Sales
Customer Survey — Benchmarking
Customer Response — Efficiency
Service Excellence — Increase Sales
All participants received a free ASQ handout. Feedback from the participants showed that the event was beneficial, the participants wished they had known about ASQ earlier so they could have had the benefits earlier, and the forum was a good opportunity to learn and share with peers and quality professionals. Some participants also requested more events that would include more interaction and learning with quality professionals.
