ASQ - Energy and Environmental Division

I wanted to update the American Society for Quality on my progress in the environmental field since receiving the ASQ Energy and Environmental Scholarship. Due to the scholarship, I was able to take more hours my senior year to graduate in four years rather than four and a half. I received a Bachelor of Science in environmental science with a minor in biology from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.

Currently, I’m an employee at Ecology and Environment, Inc. in Dallas, Texas. At E&E, I’m a member of the Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START), which supports the Environmental Protection Agency Region 6. As an environmental scientist within START, I participate in sample field screenings and GPS surveys and perform various health and safety monitoring. In addition to the fieldwork, I perform site file searches, background literature reviews, and interviews with agency representatives, facility employees, and local residents to obtain site-specific data and information. I’ve also taken several training courses while at E&E: 40-Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste, Methamphetamine Clandestine Drug Lab Field Screening, Department of Transportation, Subcontract, Emergency Responder, Standard First Aid, and Adult CPR.

In fall 2000, I hope to prepare for a legal career by attending law school at either Southern Methodist University or Texas Wesleyan University. I plan to get my Juris Doctor while concentrating in environmental law.

Again, I want to thank the American Society for Quality for a helping hand in my education at McMurry University.
