Career Matrix for Education

To the left are links to a matrix showing you what level of competency you need for the range of quality topics (the left hand column) compared to the job function you may be interested in pursuing (across the top of the matrix).

Level of competency legend:

A = Awareness:  Only awareness of this topic is needed to perform the job satisfactorily
W = Working Knowledge:  Working knowledge of this topic is needed to perform the job satisfactorily
E = Expert:  The person must be an expert on the topic in order to perform the job satisfactorily.
N = Not applicable:  Topic listed is not necessarily applicable to the job selected.

The competency levels are based on Bloom’s Taxonomy and align with any ASQ’s certifications that match the job function.

Directions

  1. Download the PDF of the matrix.
  2. Highlight the job function column for the job you currently hold or the job function you’d like to attain.
  3. Review the list of competencies for the job function you selected.
  4. Analyze your current competencies or ask your supervisor for feedback to determine where you may have gaps in knowledge.
  5. Match the gaps you’ve identified to courses, conferences, books, or webinars that ASQ offers in order to fill those gaps in knowledge for your continued professional development.

For now, let us know if this matrix is helpful by completing the following form.  We will use the feedback to improve this matrix and matrices developed for other sectors.
