The Changing Context of Advising in Higher Education
Abstract: In higher education, the concept of advising has undergone an interesting metamorphosis, as universities and colleges move beyond the context of the disciplinary framework of a particular curriculum and incorporate advising and tutoring as measures that lead to student retention and higher levels of achievement. Historically, these initiatives represent a departure from previous perspectives that regarded student success as an individual enterprise, not as an institutional responsibility.
