Why is there no forum or division for quality in the judicial system or other criminal justice areas?

Shannon,

Forums, divisions, networks and communities are driven by the interests of members and created primarily by the efforts of members.

You can go to http://www.asq.org/communities-networking/communities.html and create your own network on the subject with a few clicks of the mouse. If you are interested in a division, the documentation on this process is at http://www.asq.org/about-asq/how-we-do/pnp-d.html. For this process the best fit for working with a division would likely be the government division.

If you are interested in s forum, you can call and contact ASQ HQ at 800-248-1946/414-272-8575.

If you are interested in starting something and have questions, you can also feel free to contact me directly - I have experience in starting a network.

Thanks Aimee, I am not interested in starting one, was just curious as to why there wasn’t one. I was reading some articles about flaws in the criminal justice system and was a little surprised at the numbers\rates found in various studies from some reputable institutions. So I decided to look around on ASQ to see if there were any criminal justice forums etc.

A suggestion if I may. There are many quality tools and techniques that are applicable to judicial matters. Especially concepts like alpha and beta (type I and II) errors.

One problem (in my opinion) is that we have fragmented these boards at ASQ down to such a level that they are unmanageable and impossible to keep up with.

Dr. Deming often lamented that folks would come up and attempt to challenge him with "but can't you give me an example of someone in my industry using these techniques?". "Certainly what works in industry X won't work in my industry". I fear we sometimes chase our tails looking for examples, and not learning the overall theory that we need in order to succeed.

I am reminded that it is almost a year now since I flew to Milwaukee and ASQ HQ to a chilly reception and a year later, the boards still look the same. Oh well. At least it is warmer in South Carolina, in more ways that one!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.
