Why don’t we have an ASQ membership badge?
Posted: Nov 23, 2009 7:50 AM

Dear colleagues,

I sometimes wish there were an ASQ membership badge available. Why? To put it in simple words: I am proud of being an ASQ member and for some reasons I just want to show on occasion that I am a member. There are often meetings where the participants don’t know each other very well or one meets someone for the first time. Not everyone has a hint on his/her business cards that he/she is an ASQ member. Therefore I think an ASQ membership badge could do a good job to show everyone what we deal with and to promote our profession and /or our vocation. In my honest opinion, I would be proud of having such a visible sign that shows colleagues and other interested parties what my profession is.

What is there to be said against it? A higher membership subscription for those of us who want to have such a badge? Well, as for me, I would be more than willing to pay a little bit more for having a membership badge.

What do you think about it? Shouldn’t we be proud of being quality professionals? Of course we should – and we really should show that we are. That is why I think it is high time that we should have a discussion about it.

Thanks for your comments and thoughts in advance.

Klaus

Thanks for your enthusiasm for ASQ Klaus!

I'm not sure whether you are looking for something like a nametag or something to wear on your lapel, but there is a membership pin available through the ASQ website. This is a membership pin available at http://www.asq.org/quality-press/display-item/index.html?item=00092&xvl=76BK_00092. In the meanwhile, I've connected with Community Development, and they are sending you a lapel pin. If you are looking for something different, you can contact communitydevelopment@asq.org, and they can help you with what you need.

I'm also proud of my ASQ membership, and make sure to wear my pin whenever I'm representing the society.

Dear Mr Siegler,

Thanks so much for your kind answer and for sending the membership pin to me. I am afraid I must have missed the membership pin on the ASQ web-site. The ASQ membership pin itself is excellent - it is exactly what I meant.

I will check with some friends of mine – perhaps someone has another idea how to create a different membership pin. However, I don't think that the current one needs any improvement. A control chart is the very best thing I could imagine for the ASQ membership pin. However, your idea of creating a nametag sounds really interesting....

I promise I also will wear the pin whenever appropriate.

Once again, many thanks for your support!

Yours sincerely,

Klaus Geyer

A control chart? For those of us who go back to the days of ASQC, this is deja vu all over again! The Logo for ASQC originally had a control chart prominently in the design, as did the pin, IIRC.

Geoff - You are absolutely correct. The ASQC logo had a control chart in its center.

Dear Richard, dear Geoff,

Perhaps there are some misunderstandings in my posting. What I mean is that the current ASQ membership ((Item: 00092) is already the best one I can imagine. It already has a control chart in it. I am surely not the right person to create a better one … ;)

Please have a look at the following page:

Membership Pin in White Gold (Item: 00092) ASQ

Sorry for not explaining clearly enough what I have meant.

Regards,

Klaus

That's the one I wear but mine is yellow gold.

That is the control chart that was in the ASQC logo. I didn't realize it was still on the membership pin.

Klaus, in other organizations that I have belonged to did not have a badge but rather a pin that indicated our membership in our organizations. I think it would be nice, but I am new to ASQ and there may be something like that already that I am not aware of.

Donna,

Sorry for not responding sooner but I've been traveling. Yes - there is also a pin, but I gave Klaus the link to the badge since that was what he requested. There is also a lapel pin available through the ASQ Store. You can find it at http://www.asq.org/quality-press/display-item/index.pl?item=R140.
