Statistical Engineering: A Case Study

Abstract:The statistical engineering algorithm can be used to reduce variation in manufacturing and assembly processes, and is particularly useful in improvement systems such as Six Sigma. A case study illustrates how a team used the SE algorithm to reduce variation in the manufacture of a molded base for an assembly. The algorithm guided the team through steps needed to choose a possible approach to reduce variation. Once the dominant cause was identified, seven possible approaches were available.
