A Quest For Quality

Abstract:Hamilton Health Services, a Canadian healthcare organization with a multi-site emergency room program, used quality facilitators in six continuous quality improvement projects over a period of one year. Quality facilitators provide resources needed to plan, organize, and move quality initiatives forward. Of the six projects, two received short-term support because they were responsible only for nonurgent duties, whereas the other four projects were large in scope and required multiple system changes. The facilitators lead team members through the application of quality tools and helped them develop team-building skills. Teams came away from the experience with important skills and information to use on future projects.
