TRIZ: A Creative Breeze for Quality Professionals

Abstract:TRIZ, a systematic approach to creative thinking originating in Russia, can help quality professionals develop new approaches and solutions to quality problems. Its creator, Genrich Altshuller, wanted a systematic approach based on the rules of technical systems to help people overcome the paralysis that inhibits creative thinking. He identified 40 creative principles based on an analysis of how complex problems are solved. Using the 40 principles is not difficult because patterns begin to emerge and many of the principles are mirror images of one another. Once recognized, the principles enable the development of a robust set of inventive ideas for solving a problem.
