Volunteer Trains Black Belts in Romania

Abstract:A retired quality management consultant relates his experiences as a volunteer trainer of Black Belts in Romania, Europe's poorest country. Under the sponsorship of NCH Advisors, a management company that administers investments made in Romania by several American investment funds, the author worked with managers and engineers in ten companies to provide insight into how modern quality concepts and methods can be implemented in the formerly communist country. Despite language and cultural challenges, the technically oriented Romanian students responded enthusiastically to the statistical methods presented. Romania still has much to learn about western quality improvement concepts and methods, but there is a determination to do what it takes to sell their products in the world marketplace.
