Six Sigma in Metaphor: Heresy or Holy Writ?

Abstract:Views on Six Sigma differ greatly. Some see it as the quality equivalent of a holy writ; others see it merely as smoke and mirrors. Since quality has become an extremely broad field, however, what is known about Six Sigma varies widely across the profession and from person to person. Six Sigma will eventually need to be integrated with other tools, used in nontraditional sectors, adapted, and strengthened. Energizing Six Sigma are its improvement and design approaches, DMAIC (define-measure-analyze-improve-control) and DFSS (design for Six Sigma).
