Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

As you work through the course you will be asked to demonstrate knowledge and understanding in four ways:

• Interactive practice exercises throughout each session—you try new skills and get immediate feedback.
• Supplemental exercises at the end of each session to practice new concepts are self-graded and can be shared in the course’s virtual classroom discussion.
• Interactive quizzes at the end of every session provide immediate feedback.
• We strongly suggest a meaningful Black Belt project accompany this learning.

Lean content includes coverage of value stream mapping, continuous flow and Little’s Law, level-loaded processing, quick changeovers, pull scheduling systems, 5S, standardized work, kaizen, and total productive maintenance (TPM). Numerous case studies and examples focus on service, business process, and manufacturing applications.

Industry-specific examples:

• HEALTHCARE
  • Service-oriented processes typically found in healthcare industries, including facility operations, insurance, medical device manufacturing, and financial administration.
• SERVICE
  • Transactional processes typically found in service-oriented industries, including facility insurance, healthcare, mortgage lending, and banking and administrative functions common to corporate operations.
• TRADITIONAL
  • DMAIC methodology, design of experiments, integrated lean tools, and techniques found in a “traditional” manufacturing environment.
• FINANCIAL SERVICES
  • Focuses on either financial industries, including insurance, mortgage lending, and banking, or administrative functions common to corporate operations.

Format

All course sessions use a mix of multimedia to present material, including text, synchronized audio slide shows, diagrams, charts, audio lectures, and simulations. Links to outside research resources are provided to explore chosen subjects in greater detail.

Materials

This is a fully online course and comes with a downloadable version of EngineRoom® as well as downloadable Excel® templates. EngineRoom® is available for the English (U.S.) version ONLY, for Excel XP/2003 and Excel 2007. EngineRoom® is not tested for Apple Mac users. Individual pages in the online course are printable. A PDF version of the entire course is not available and we don’t recommend that you attempt to print the entire course.
