Design For Six Sigma (DFSS)

Who Should Attend

For DFSS, the target audience is all people with direct or supervisory responsibilities for overseeing research and development of product and process. This includes but is not limited to those in marketing, engineering, metrology and laboratory.

Prerequisites

Some experience with statistics and statistical process control is helpful: Six Sigma Green Belt level is more than adequate. If some participants do not have this experience, they will rely more heavily on the support of classmates and the instructor.

Learning Outcomes

The successful student will be able to:

• Develop a solid appreciation for the structure of the DFSS approach to product and process development.
• Learn the IDEA (IDOV) structure and methodology.
• Assess a DFSS project with respect to the appropriateness of its development activities.
• Efficiently develop a set of product/process requirements by leveraging a variety of tools and resources (voice of customer, FMEA, Kano, QFD).
• Flow the requirements down through the organization from part planning through process and production requirements.
• Identify and prioritize gaps to be closed by the design process.
• Assess a design for its ability to meet customer requirement for capability, reliability, and robustness.
